Careers Education

Furness Academy has a comprehensive Careers Education programme. This is led by Mrs A Rawlinson, Director of PSHE, Careers and Guidance, supported by the wider Personal Development team. This programme is implemented as a spiral curriculum, starting in Year 7 and progressing through the student's time with us, culminating in detailed preparation for further education or the world of work in Year 11. Our curriculum is constantly evolving, both in formal personal development lessons taught in the classroom, to more interactive learning in the workplace, educational visits, presentations, lectures and much more. Mrs Rawlinson can be contacted via email or phone.

Careers Programme

We pride ourselves on our student progression. Our students are individuals and each has an individualised careers progression plan. In 2019, all school leavers progressed on to either further education, training and work placements, apprenticeships or further study.

Our Personal Development team work closely with our wider careers community to offer our students a bespoke careers package. We pride ourselves on our strong connections with South Cumbria, national and international employers. Our students have a 50 minute lesson every week within personal development where time is spent working on careers education. Our students careers entitlement is designed to give the best possible start to careers pathways, no matter what that may be.

Through a planned programme of activities within PD and wider subjects, Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Furness Academy seeks to help all students to take their place as suitably qualified and responsible adults within society. Our focus is to explore career and option choices, raising the aspirations and achievement of individual students and help to equip them with the ‘soft’ skills required as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning.

Furness Academy ensuring that the CEIAG programme we deliver follows local, regional and national frameworks for good practice and other relevant guidance, such as the Gatsby Benchmarks for good career guidance (see http://www.gatsby.org.uk/education/focus-areas/good-career-guidancefor further details).
