The BUPA GREAT MANCHESTER RUN

The Bupa Great Manchester 150m  took place on Sunday 16th May 2010 on a purpose built track in Deansgate. It was elevated from ground level to eliminate the road camber and allow a flat running surface. Many of the top worlds and british athletes turned out in force to attempt the sprint. As did Tasmin Crook from Furness Academy South site .

Here is her account of her experience

I ran the 150m in Manchester. It was a good experience for my friend Freya from UVHS, and myself because although we ran the 150m, it was on a straight elevated track. We didn’t just run the 150m, we met some famous athletes who were also there to do the run.

·         Linford Christie

·         Darren Campbell

·         Mark Lewis Francis

·         Shauna Thompson

·         Ewan Thomas

The track was on a platform set up up along Deansgate. It was a strange experience running past a lot of shops because I usually run in an athletics stadium.

My time was 22.17secs and I came 2nd in my race.

Hopefully I will run the Manchester 150m next year and improve my time.

Our Summer term is now well underway and I am very pleased with the dedication our students have been showing towards their studies and the energy which they have been putting into the wider activities at the Academy.
