A PICTURE OF SUCCESS
An art student from Furness Academy has been selected by the prestigious Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) to exhibit at the RBA National Students Exhibition this summer.
Selected from many entries, Year 10 student Emma Borwick’s piece will now hang at the Royal College of Art in London. Emma has been invited to travel to the capital for the exhibitions opening in July where she will meet other up and coming artists from across the country.
Emma’s work, entitled ‘Sunset Silhouette’, is a 2D relief piece of mixed media based on an aboriginal theme. Emma used a pointillist technique to gently blend the sunset tones against a black background.
“I feel very proud to have had a piece of my art chosen for such a prestigious exhibition. I enjoyed working on the piece and really appreciated the opportunity to show my artwork outside of the Academy.”
The work of four other students, Hannah Downing, Leilah Hodgson, Fern Henderson, Gemma Pollock, all Year 11 students, were also highly commended by the RBA. All the work was chosen from the students GCSE course work or final exam piece.
Head of Art, Miranda Bond, said that it was an amazing achievement to have the Academy’s work commended and displayed by the society. “The standard of art our students produce is very impressive. I am delighted that our young artists are getting the recognition they deserve for their talent and hard work. Who knows, we may have helped to produce the next Damien Hirst or Tracy Enim.”
