World Book Day 2017

Thursday 2nd March

Reading for pleasure is a fundamental part of our culture at Furness Academy.  Therefore, we are celebrating World Book Day across school in a number of ways. During the day we will be holding a Drop Everything and Read session where all students stop what they are doing and read for their lesson. Please can you remind your child to bring some reading material with them.

We will be hosting competition, quizzes and games throughout the day, culminating in a film showing of the recently released The BFG at the end of the day, which will run until approximately 5.30pm.  If your child wishes to attend, can you please return the reply slip at the bottom of the page. We will also be selling some classic cinema treats if they would like to buy some to enjoy during the film.

Most importantly, we are inviting students to attend school dressed as a book character of their choice. Students are encouraged to dress as a recognisable book character for the day instead of wearing their uniform.  Any Student who is not dressed as a book character must be dressed in full school uniform.  Students who take part will be asked to donate £1. All money raised will be donated to Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which helps to make life better for seriously ill children in the UK.

The same clothing rules apply on World Book Day, as they would on any other planned non-uniform day, including no exposed mid-riffs or see-through items of clothing. We want the students to dress as recognisable book characters and not treat this as a general non-uniform day. Students will be asked to change if their clothing is not deemed appropriate. Below are links and images to the types of costumes we are looking for.

We do not  want students dressed as characters from Diary of a Chav or any using any other book to come dressed in non-uniform as opposed to a costume.

And the picture below shows some of our amazing costumes from last year..

Top of the Form Final 11-Jul-2016

Top of the Form FINAL! The competition was everything we expected: the spectacle, crowds, tension, and the courage exhibited by our mighty four: Courtney, Christian, Martha and Caleb. Chetwynde started, and continued, for the first two rounds, as the superior team, racing ahead almost effortlessly.
